Anne Frost

Founder and President

Anne DuVal Frost, Ph.D., R.N., Founder and President, has been a resident of Pelham for 44 years. She earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Virginia and an M.A. and a Ph.D. from NYU. Dr. Frost has held nursing positions in acute care as well as nursing education. She has a private practice in child/adolescent and adult psychotherapy.

Dr. Frost was selected for three terms as a “Distinguished Speaker” for Sigma Theta Tau, The International Honor Society for Nursing. She has published articles on political action, social marketing and community-based health promotion. Dr. Frost was an independent producer and moderator for “Healthstyles” for the New York State Nurses Association on WBAI FM radio.

Dr. Frost has received awards from the Advocates for Child Psychiatric Nursing, the Journal for Holistic Nursing for the Outstanding Manuscript Award and American Journal for Nursing Media Festival for a Project CHILDD video. Dr. Frost has held elective offices for the New York State Nurses Association. She also presents popular community programs on parenting strategies to help prevent eating disorders and childhood fears. Her community work also includes service on a number of boards. Dr. Frost was a 2002 recipient of the New York State Senate’s Women of Distinction Award.

Susan Varrin Deland

Treasurer

Susan Varrin Deland, CPA, Treasurer, has been a Pelham resident for 16 years. She graduated with a degree in Economics from Princeton University, and then got her Masters in Accounting at NYU’s Stern School of Business. Susan worked in the financial services industry in New York City for twenty-four years as an accountant, an operating officer, and a lender. A mother of two teenagers, Susan now works as a financial consultant for various organizations. In 2013, Susan co-authored Spectacular Bond: Reaching the Child with Autism, which outlines the at-home therapy program that Susan utilized with her autistic daughter, Diane. Diane has enjoyed Project Community’s Project CHILDD programs for many years, and initiative for which Susan is grateful. Susan is proud to serve on the Project Community Board to contribute her time, talents, and energy in a variety of ways, particularly as an autism advocate.

Elaine Pottenger

Vice President

Elaine Pottenger, MS. RN, CPNP, PMHS, Vice President, has been a resident of Edgemont for 15 years. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Molloy College and went on to receive a Master of Science from Columbia University. Ms. Pottenger is a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Pediatric Mental Health Specialist. She has spent the majority of her professional career in pediatric hematology and oncology and is currently working  in the Pediatric Long Term Follow Up Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In 2010, Ms. Pottenger received the Samuel and May Rudin Award for Excellence in Advanced Nursing Practice. She also belongs to several professional organizations including APHON, NAPNAP, ONS AND PENS.

In addition to Project Community, Ms. Pottenger serves as Chair of the “Kids help Kids” committee, and assists with hospice care.
